E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} The following is an extract from Mr.Royce's memo R3/P. 21813.:- "So far I have the impression that no one "can make springs to beat Salters, except "it may be ourselves. The Terry's "springs should be particularly noted, but "all these springs should be compared with "others of equally high stresses. "The valve spring experiment is over "providing we use either our own springs "or Salters and we use increased section "of metal, lately instructed from Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, "and we prevent the valve cams leaving "the seats, that is, we must put rather "higher limits on the speed in which the "valves leave the seats, but not much higher, "as this is such a good safety valve to "prevent over-running of the engine." p.
