Na.{Mr Nadin} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} The following is an extract from Mr Royce's memo R3/P21813:- "So far I have the impression that no one can make springs to beat Salters, except it may be ourselves. The Terry's springs should be particularly noted, but all these springs should be compared with others of equally high stresses. "The valve spring experiment is over providing we use either our own springs or Salters and we use increased section of metal, lately instructed from Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, and we prevent the valve cams leaving the seats, that is, we must put rather higher limits on the speed in which the valves leave the seats, but not much higher, as this is such a good safety valve to prevent over-running of the engine." p.
