BENTLEY REAR AXLE.
K/KC/PP/16.2.37.

Thank you for your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}3/R.18.2.37.

I am glad to note that you are increasing the securing bolt diameter, although I am not sure that this is all that will be required. Are you of the opinion that a liquid jointing would help matters with the flange, or do you think there is too much fidgeting at the joint face for any such type of jointing to remain constant for any length of time? I hope you don't mind these suggestions of mine.

Regarding the three sets of increased capacity bearings which you sent to me for Trials cars, one set was fitted to 4¼-litre Bentley, Chassis No. B.2.GA, on the 8.2.37, the mileage at that time being 22,678. I am arranging for the remaining two sets to be fitted at the first opportunity.

Regarding the final paragraph of your memo dealing with the cases where owners can fail the thrust race cages quickly, as you will readily realise, owners do not care to spare their cars for a longer period than is absolutely necessary, especially at this time of the year as far as the London area is concerned. In view of this, would it not be a better plan for me to have one set of parts per scheme for improved lubrication, so that when a case arises, the parts are available immediately. If you agree, let me have the parts as quickly as possible; also any drawings or schemes connected with it.

K/KC.
