From Exp. Dept., Copies for:- J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} R.{Sir Henry Royce} Ha. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Hyll/621114. 21st. January 1914. Report on Bumping Test of Pivots. #3783/4. X. 168. ----------------------- This pivot is the one with the recess on the taper part of the stub axle and which has been standardised quite recently. A pair of pivots were run over 3" humps at 105 revs. per min. E.V/754 The near side one broke after running 41 hours 6 mins. The off side one has run 60 hours and is not yet broken. The first one broke at the root of the stub. I think these tests are satisfactory and the pivot to be quite safe especially as the bore of the stub has been slightly reduced since the tests were made. The bore has been reduced from 1.33" to 1.312". (sgd.) Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} | ||
