To: [Redacted] from RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [Redacted] SECRET. 85380. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}2/BE25.2.32. J.3. REAR WHEEL ARCH CASTINGS With reference to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/AV1/M20.2.32. which informed us of the despatch of N. Schemes 3436/7 for the aluminium rear wheel arches. Schemes arrived on the morning of the 23rd. drawings have been produced and patterns are in hand. It will, however, take five weeks to produce the necessary castings. In order to reduce the time, we can offer the following alternatives, in which case, of course, the delivery date would be taken from the time decision is made as to which alternative is satisfactory. (a) Making up in aluminium sheet, delivery date for which would be 3-4 weeks. (b) Making up from 16 SWG Mild Steel (weight of which would come out approximately the same as the alum:) and black enamelled when finished. Delivery - two weeks. When delivery date for the first J.3. body (which is due for Easter) was given, no reservations whatever entered into the question. Now this date can only be fulfilled providing the wheel arch castings are delivered within a week from your note. Works can, and do, produce parts quickly, but it is impossible to produce castings of the type requested in a week. Yours require the time necessary to get out schemes. Works are also entitled to the necessary time for producing a satisfactory job, and we do not consider that you are in a position to dictate that castings required should be produced in a week. It would, however, appear that the building of the bodies can be proceeded with, and the wheel arch castings fitted when available. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} BRC | ||
