Minute No.

Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}1/R.12.6.33.

9.
Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} raised the question of Steering Gear and said the Managing Director's new car will not have a Rolls-Royce steering gear, but will be fitted with a Marles-Weller steering instead.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} expressed the opinion that Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} would not be satisfied with the R.R. steering, and that the Marles-Weller does improve the car.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} will look into the various types of steering gear with a view to making improvement in the R.R.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} suggested that as we are now trying out the Marles-Weller we should also make tests with the Marles. This was agreed.

10.
Failures of Exhaust Systems.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reported that the biggest service complaint is the breakage of exhaust pipes due to crystallization of the metal near the welds and corrosion.

By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will look into this.

11.
Threaded Shackles.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} raised this and said he had information from Oy. to the effect that General Motors had generally adopted the threaded shackle.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will look into the possibility of our using same.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has a set which E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will inspect.
