Minute No. -6- Hyl/R.12.6.33.

5. Controllable Shock Dampers.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said we had almost promised S. that we should give them controllable dampers on P.II. chassis at an early date, and we ought therefore to be busy on a design of control on the lines of the experimental hook up on Kxp. chassis J.III.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} promised to provide a design.

6. Ignition.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} asked whether when making the chassis with 8-litre engine in J.III. frame we should not do away with the magneto ignition and its controls including the oil pressure relay and fit a double head battery and coil ignition instead.

It was agreed that this should be done.

7. SpectreCodename for Phantom III.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} raised the question of the type of connecting rod to be used and explained the features of each type.

It was finally decided that side by side rods be adopted.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said twin carburetters will be used.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said the horizontal type carburetters give the best results and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said he will make the new carburetters of this type.

The engine size is to be 3 1/4" x 4 1/2" bore and stroke.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} pointed out that it may be necessary to have the steering column between the clutch and brake pedals and this may be adversely criticised by Sales Dept.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will arrange to find out how the steering gear is positioned in other makes of Vee engined cars such as Lincoln and Cadillac.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said he will shortly have a general arrangement drawing ready of SpectreCodename for Phantom III which all can examine.

8. Gear boxes.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said we cannot afford to entirely dismiss the epicyclic gear from our plans for future development in view of the work of other people on easy change and quiet gear boxes.

Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} will arrange a visit for E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Edy. and Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} to E.N.V. to see the Wilson box in production.
