To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} +306 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}12/KW.8.1.36. Ph.III Rear Brake Lining Rivet Failure. The recent failures of Ph.III rivets are due to the use of a brass, the strength of which falls off rapidly with heat, for rivets which are bound to reach a high temperature. 200 Ph.III rivets in a special brass are overdue to arrive here for test purposes. We want to see what proportion of the cold strength is maintained at 250oC, and require a test piece as per sketch, which we think you can make out of a pair of standard test bars. We require 6 rivets specially machining when they arrive. We should be glad if you could cut the steel in advance so that there will be no delay when the rivets arrive.
