TWIN ARMOURED LEAD.
COMBINED STOP AND TAIL LIGHT.

In response to your K/KC/DPB.16.1.35., we have now made an investigation into the complaints referred to in respect of the above lamp. We consider the shorts to be due to :-

(a) the moulded insulating piece carrying the two pins into which the wire is soldered moving relatively to the lamp causing the wire to chafe and subsequently short circuit.

(b) alternatively shorts are taking place where the metal braiding is clamped to the fitting, there is very little room for clamping the braiding at the same time ensuring that the rubber insulation has not been damaged. Although these fittings are tested after assembly it is possible for shorts to occur after the car as run a number of miles due to vibration. We suggest the insulation of the cable is definitely too thin for this type of fitting.

With regard to your item 3 we have not traced any corrosion taking place in these lamps.

We are arranging to take up this matter with the makers.
