re Sample Butler Tail Lamp.

ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/GEA.5/VR.{E. S. Voller - Orders}15.1.35.

We have examined the Butler Tail lamp but find there are a number of points open to criticism:-

(1) The side and the rear lids are by no means weather-proof.

(2) The thickness of the lamp is too great; we went to a great deal of trouble to obtain the small thickness of the present Lucas lamp.

(3) We do not like the rear lamp being exposed.

(4) Glass windows are very much better than the composition ones provided.

(5) The method of connecting the conductor to the lamps without an exterior disconnecting point on the lamp does not suit our wiring layout.

(6) The finish generally is inferior to the Lucas. We think that if the lamp was modified to suit our requirements the cost would then possibly be as much as the Lucas lamp.

There is no desire to discourage Butlers, because we have successfully dealt with them in the past, and we always like to keep the smaller firms going if at all possible.

We have passed the two sample lamps to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. for any further criticism.
