With regard to the pistons with the sawcut in the scraper ring groove, these have now run for 78 hours, but whether they are cracked or not, we cannot say, as we are waiting for the strip report at the moment, but we know that they definitely completed 60 hours and were free from cracks through the ring grooves.

About October 1934 we tried a set of anodically treated pistons, and we should be very glad if you could give us the following information about the process :-

(1) Who actually did the job ?
(2) What was the solution used ?
(3) What was the charge rate ?
(4) What was the temperature of the solution ?
(5) Was the process called "Alumiliting" ?
(6) Are there any other processes and what are the particulars ?

If you cannot supply the above particulars, do you know from whom we could get them.

At the time we believe you mentioned that there was a slight increase in the general dimensions, about .0005", could you confirm this.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
