20HP. VERTICAL RADIATOR SHUTTERS.

X5250 X5240 X5430 & 2338

Herewith we send N. schs. 2327. & 2337/8 shewing the proposed linkage for the mixture control on the steering column which is required by the fitting of the above shutters.

N. sch. 2327. is a suggestion for using the bosses already existing on the engine crankcase and cylinder water jacket cover, and it is thought that it would probably be satisfactory as shewn; since we are not quite sure whether R.{Sir Henry Royce} will like it however we have prepared N. sch. 2337/8 shewing an arrangement with a stationary tube between the ignition and mixture control tubes which involves altering the bosses on the crankcase and cylinder.

The arrangements in the steering column will be sent subsequently. We have looked into them sufficiently far to be sure that they can be done. The levers on the bottom of the steering column for both ignition and throttle have had to be lengthened, and we have lengthened those on their respective transmission tubes a corresponding amount, so as to keep the ratios the same as now.

We have not been able to find a drawing of the controls with the steering column with outside pendulum lever, and so have had to use a drawing of the older type of controls, and checked them off the 20HP. we have here. We should be glad therefore if you would verify the positions, lengths of lever, etc, on this drawing.

[Handwritten note]
As the car here is R.C. steering we have shewn that. Can you send us a print of B.C. controls & outside pendulum levers so that we can indicate necessary modifications. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}
