| S/W Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} C2/C13.3.41 261 Re 3-AX-35....Lord Provost of Glasgow. ---------- Bk.{A. Birkett - Commercial Manager} has sent me a copy of your memo. in regard to the above, wherein you give it as your opinion that a jaggering clutch might cause fatigue of the half shafts, with consequent failure. We find, however, that this car was fitted with the new long type clutch plate with thermoid lining early in its life. The car was delivered on 15.4.37 and the new clutch plate was fitted in February 1938 after 9700 miles. The axle failed at approximately 52,000 miles. Does this alter your views, because we have coupled with it the fact that the gearbox had been knocked about quite a bit and both these things appear to have gone about the same time? We therefore suspected some harsh treatment. C. | ||
