To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Mdy. c. to RRG. X306 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}1/JH.7.3.36. Hand Brake Adjuster on Ph.III. We have been considering M.sch.4718, to which drawing we have had several adjusters made. We think that this mechanism, having so many splines and being made of stainless steel, etc., is a very expensive way of doing a job which indeed, may never have to be done at all by a customer. G.W.H's. rejection of the original vernier splined adjuster was justifiable but we do not think this department then appreciated the difference the modification you immediately suggested would make. We are convinced after practical tests that this is good enough, but we would like you to give us a hexagon head as per attached sketch in place of a square recess in the toggle shaft, modify the nut G.83518 to accommodate this, and cut back the inner splines of G.83521 by .050" (keeping the .050" chamfer) in the same manner as you have cut back the outer ones. This is our recommendation for production. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} | ||
