BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X.7772 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M27.12.28. L.H. 'SS{S. Smith}' GEARBOX. Thank you for BY9/G20.12.28. Under the circumstances there does not seem to be any special reason why Mr. Hardy should come up on Monday next. R.{Sir Henry Royce} has instructed us that 'CamachaHenry Royce's office in West Wittering' is to take over the design of the L.H. gearbox to carry it through to perfection. We understand that we are not to communicate with Springfield in connection with this design during the secrecy period, and consequently any difficulties or troubles discovered in laying out the design should be reported to us, and we will deal with them in conjunction with R.{Sir Henry Royce} Until we receive some such report however there appears to be nothing that we can do.
