Issues with the clutch, gearbox, and foot brakes on Goshawk models.

Clutch. I take it that the clutch now frees itself when disengaged.

Gear Box. I am taking this matter up with the works but they feel they are rather tied down to too close a limit but I do not wish to increase this limit as I feel we shall then have the Works making them too slack. The gear box people contend that the gear box in itself is O.K. but the trouble is most likely caused by a slight faulty alignment of the 1st. Motion shaft when engaged in position into the clutch spigot which again only confirms faulty alignment, manufacture. I do not propose recommending more clearance in this respect unless we are able to prove that there is no harmful effects in the running of the car by having more clearance.

With regard to the ball bearing noise in the gear box. The Works contend that this is the Hyatt Bearing. We have similar noises on our Goshawk cars at the Works and will, as soon as possible, have this complaint investigated. Please report further developements in this respect.

Foot Brake. We are very anxious that you should report frequently on this point as we have not, with the cars at the Works, been able to obtain any really reliable and consistent results but it is only on 4-Goshawk-11 and 5-Goshawk-11 that the latest type brakes and brake drums are fixed, hence our anxiety to know whether we are on the right lines for going ahead with production in this respect. We are also, of course, anxious to turn out the car from the Works so that the brakes have settled down and do not alter in the characteristic when
