x4056 HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/LG24.3.22. RE. GOSHAWK. We have received your preliminary report dated 22nd.March, and have circulated as requested. We are now anxious to receive from you a permanent address so that we can keep you posted up with the latest information and action we are taking as regards further work on Goshawks. We are pushing ahead with our carburetter experiments and we hope to receive some information from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} as to what he recommends should be done and as soon as we knew are in a position to suggest something which will overcome the poor carburation below 20 M.P.H. we will let you know. The only prospect appears to be the S.U. Carburetter. Timing Wheels Noisy. We should like to know what is the cause of this. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reported that the engine developed a nasty vibration which appeared to me to come from the engine gears at about 28 M.P.H. and which he found was due to the slipper wheel being too tight and which he now reports he has cured by setting the slipper wheel easier. He also reported that the slipper wheel was practically solid. Tappet Knocks. We should like to know what attention these tappets require and how long it takes for them to settle down. We are anxious to be in a position where we can turn out cars in which this trouble does not take place in the hands of customers. contd:- | ||
