Re: CHASSIS 3.AZ.20 - F.B.A.Ltd.
(Total mileage: 32.645 miles.)

Further to our Sr/VA4/ET.16.3.38: Report upon Wear of Cylinder Bores and broken Piston Rings, the following is our report upon the bearings, camshaft and tappets, etc..

BEARINGS OF THE CONNECTING RODS.

After this car had covered 15.203 miles, we dismantled the connecting rods for inspection of the big-end bearings. Two were found to be in a bad condition, the remainder being fair, and Sr. sent a report to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Grys as per Sr9/ET.1.4.37 concerning the bearings. The original rods were returned to the Works for examination and we fitted a set of new connecting rods. The car has covered a further 17.442 miles since the fitting of these new connecting rods (E.84691) and we have now examined the connecting rod bearings. The crankpin bearings are unfortunately in a rather poor condition, chunks of metal are missing and there are cracks in the metal. The condition of the surface of the strap bearings is good, with the exception of N°5, in which a fairly large piece of metal is missing. We are returning the rods to Works and we have labelled them for your attention. Please refer to paragraph I of our Sr/VA4/ET.16.3.38.

MAIN BEARINGS.

We have removed all the lower halves with the exception of N°7 for inspection and find the lower halves to be in very good condition. There are no signs of cracks, loss of metal or score marks.

TAPPETS.

The bottom of the majority of the tappets are worn and scored and on several, the plating has broken away.

CAMSHAFT.

Several of the cams are worn (·003" to ·004") and also scored. We have ordered a new camshaft and a set of tappets etc.. from the Works and we will return to Works the dismantled camshaft and tappets in order that they can be reconditioned for stock. We will label them for your attention.
