With reference to the new model 20 H.P., we find that for appearance sake the radiator should look thick, like our 40 H.P. but that the matrix of the radiator need only be thin. We think, therefore, it will be quite easy to arrange shutters for regulating the heat behind the radiator (i.e. between the radiator and the fan) The fan, however, will require to be cowled in somewhat to make it effective.

While on this subject, I should like to point out that we should be able to maintain sufficiently correctly the temperature of the engine with the following combination:-

(1) A thermostat bye-pass is fitted to short-circuit the radiator.

(2) In temperate climates part of the radiator will be partly blocked off, even in summer time, and in tropical climates the whole of the radiator will be rendered effective by removal of these covers. In winter time still more of the radiator will be blocked off.

This would be a simpler and lighter arrangement than shutters, but would require a little extra attention and care on the part of the driver. It would not alter the appearance of the car.

Regarding the fitting of shutters, especially behind the radiator, it should be noted that this arrangement would not avoid the necessity of using some extra protection in severe winter weather, such as one finds in the central Northern United States and Canada. This would also be needed with the above combination.
