| -5- Frames and Fittings. Frame distorted generally due to accident. Quantity of stones found in Box section frame in the region of 3rd. crossmember. Rear step irons "sandblasted" by road conditions. Front engine suspension rubbers permanently distorted - these were handed to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Wing Stays. General condition good. Rear Road Springs. Lower spring pads F.87994/5 - near side broken and the off-side cracked, possibly due to accident - suggest this piece be strengthened locally. Front anchorage bracket F.87538/9 severely "sandblasted" by stones. Transverse bolts securing anchorage to frame broken on the off-side. All U. bolts F.87990 bent and one broken due to accident. Wear on shackle pins .0015 to .002. Rubber pads isolating the road springs, damaged due to accident. Bottom plate Container F.88505 have collapsed under load into the recess of spring pad, this may be caused by the small poundage plate which is obviously wrong, either the poundage plate should be dispensed with or made large enough to take the full area of the rubber employed. Springs 1300 lb. type near side centre bolt sheared between the 5th and 6th leaf due to accident. All leaves well lubricated, front end of leaves showing signs of rust due to gaiter being torn. Off-side spring, main leaf permanently bent due to accident. Steering Column. Steering Box shews signs of fidgetting in spherical mounting in frame probably due to only a line contact on spherical bearing. Slight wear on track in cam roller. Otherwise general condition good. Side Steering Tube. General condition good. Petrol Tank. Front exposed surface 'sandblasted' with road conditions, this condition is similar to 25/30 and Bentley tanks. Tank badly damaged due to accident. Otherwise O.K. Pedals. Condition good. Dashbrackets and floorboards. Condition good. Petrol Piping. Avio-flex pipe from tank to filter - braiding has become displaced so as to reveal the corrugated construction of the pipe. contd. | ||
