With a view to improving the distribution on Kestrel supercharged engines a series of induction pipe tests have recently been carried out. Various pipes and combinations of pipes have been tried, incorporating the best features of each, but in no instance do the results obtained warrant any diversion from the existing standard pipe. CONDITIONS OF TEST. Engine K - IIIMS - Exp II with 6/1. C.R. pistons. Plugs Lodge A.2. Fuels D.T.D. 134 - for running at 90% rated power D.T.D. 134 + 3 cc's T.E.L./gall for F.T. running. For each pipe tried, two consumption loops were taken at 2250 R.P.M. (1) at 90% of the rated power (525 HP.) i.e. at 472 BHP. (2) at Full Throttle. Observations of the distribution throughout the throttle range were also made. The engine was run with the normal water out-let temperature - 75o C. RESULTS OF TESTS. The above schedule of tests was carried out on each of the following pipes :- (1) Front section of standard pipe-(E.32229)-with side-by-side manifolds and the rear section of E.36501 with staggered manifolds. (2) Pipe E.36501 with staggered manifolds, having an extension beyond the front manifold lead. (3) Pipe E.38182 having staggered manifolds and terminating at the front manifold lead. | ||
