X4432 K2764 To BJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to PN.{Mr Northey} c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} S E C R E T. WEAR ON 40/50 VALVE GUIDES. This matter is receiving considerable attention in the Expl: Dept: At the present time we have cars running with valve guides made of different materials. also valves made of different materials. So far as our tests have gone at present we feel confident that we shall be able shortly to recommend other materials which will definitely increase the life of the Valve Guides. We can never however, be entirely free from this trouble until the valves are enclosed and properly lubricated. It was for this reason that I recommended we should follow the Springfield design (which has been approved by R.{Sir Henry Royce}) to enclose the Valves. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
