As you know, this car is going to Australia and the Duke's driver has raised the question of the fitting of a fine gauze or guard to the back of the radiator to prevent sand reaching the engine.

Could such a gauze or guard be fitted, please? Presumably, to exclude sand, it would have to be of a very fine mesh. Would it, in consequence, interfere with the air flow through the radiator?

If you do not advise the fitting of a sand proof gauze on the back of the radiator, you may decide to suggest a fine gauze or deflector to the front end of the air silencer, to prevent sand being sucked into the engine.

Is it possible to provide some form of protection between the base of the radiator and the sump, so as to help keep the engine clean?

I would suggest an Air Maze Oil bath filter be fitted specially and an undersheet at the front. RWf/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}
