Dear Mr. Wilks,

Herewith a sketch of bearings which we think might do for your big ends. We have a shim in our connecting rods which stops the bearing turning round. We have to do this because we have an oil hole through the bearing which has to locate in the rod. In your case it would not be dangerous if a bearing were to turn round, so we have not located it.

A less costly bearing which we have run with complete success is shown on sketches 2 & 3. In this case the connecting rod had about .007" clearance at the big end, sideways, and there was no bearing metal on the side faces. Pontiacs use this scheme with complete success. Actually the bearing we have shown would require a narrower pin but there is no reason whatever why the bearing without a flange should not be used in your existing width connecting rod. Anyhow for your existing test on the material we are recommending the flanged bearing, and proceeding accordingly.
