Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 10th June, 1938. Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, The abolition of noise in motor vehicles has recently become of increasing importance, and only scientific approach to the problem is likely to reveal unsuspected sources of noise and vibration without recourse to the long protracted and laborious process of trial and error. The use of specially designed instruments, capable of giving, in the first place, an objective and accurate measurement of the total volume of noise and in the second place, a frequency analysis, enabling the values and amplitudes of the component frequencies to be diagnosed individually, is indispensable in the investigation of noise in moving vehicles. You will therefore be interested in our Noise Measuring Equipment which is described in the attached leaflet. For the objective measurement of noise we have designed two Noise Meters, types TF.{T. Fisher}397 and TF.{T. Fisher}500. The former model is extremely sensitive, having a range from 24 to 130 phons, whilst type TF.{T. Fisher}500. incorporates a special output circuit which is based on the description of an instrument referred to in a paper given before the Institute of Electrical Engineers by Dr. A.{Mr Adams} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Davies of the National Physical Laboratory. | ||
