47310 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and HHG. from HDY.{William Hardy} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} P.2. S.M. 2nd Gearbox. I have tried this gearbox since it has been fitted with weaker 2nd speed S.M. plungers and with 50° cams and my impression is that the actuation of 2nd speed is too heavy. We have, therefore, instructed the following modifications with a view to obtaining lighter actuation. Weaker selector springs N. Sch.4128. Wider 2nd speed S.M. cone N. Sch.4141.✓ Ball Bearing Bottom Slider N. Sch.4140.✓ Modified 1st and 2nd actuating lever N. Sch.4145.✓ Modification to 1st and 2nd S.M.sleeve N. Sch.4143. We should like the wider cone tried with a 45° cam as we know that the existing narrow cone is quite free from crashing with a 50° cam. [Signature] HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
