Hdy.{William Hardy} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}/4/KT.11.5.34. VULTURE GEARBOX. We have to report a failure of the 3rd. speed driven gear on this gearbox. Two teeth were broken right off and a third fracture at the root. This gear has done half an hour full torque on the dynamometer and 2083 miles of road running. This is a 12 D.P. 14½º obliquity gear. We suggest that the strength can be increased 24% by using 10 D.P. 20º obliquity gears and shall experiment along these lines. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
