Four Door Saloon for 1-B-5. We send herewith a print of FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}20 shewing the proposed body for the first B.III chassis, and also a copy of our instructions to Messrs. Park Ward & Co. We would be glad to receive any comments which Sales have to make on the Specification, so that we can have the changes incorporated. Below we give a brief comparison between the proposed body and the present standard Bentley Saloon: 1. Overall height - unaltered. 2. Seat height from ground - unaltered. 3. Rear seat 3" further back relative to the front seat with consequent increase in knee room and the abolition of wells. 4. Front floor to road 1.175 inches less. 5. Rear " " 4.125 " 6. Rear cushion 2" wider. 7. Front of body at driving seat 3" wider. We have arranged for the body to be constructed similar to that for chassis B-117-JY, now used by Lp.{Mr Lappin} In view of the increased rigidity of the chassis frame and the lower rating of the suspension, we are urging a saving in weight over and above that saved on the body of B-117-JY. Since the first all steel body on B-56-BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} weighed 8 1/2 cwts, and the early production bodies about 8 cwts, we have fixed a weight of 8 cwts, as a maximum for 1-B-5.
