Engine performance improvements, detailing changes in consumption, torque, and acceleration for a 20 HP car.

We are doing this at present.
From the results we have obtained so far,however,
we can safely say that the consumption will be improved 10 or 12% and that the low speed torque will be improved about the same percent. The acceleration will also be definitely better.
What,however, we expect will be the chief advantage is that we hope to be able to produce consistently, an improved performance. The improvement on the best examples of the present 20 HP. car may not be very great but we believe on the average all round, there will be a definite improvement.
The disadvantage in using the higher compression is the increased tendency to detonate.
We cannot notice any difference with regard to the pulsations on the car we have tried so far.
We are at present running an "Exprese" 10,000 miles test - 460 miles per day, in order to run off the standardisation mileage for a number of new parts. The car being used for this purpose is 7-G-11 with Maythorn saloon because it has most of the new parts fitted. After the car had completed 5000 miles we changed the engine unit for one with the exhaust heated throttle and other modifications. There was a definite improvement in performance with regard to low speed torque, acceleration and consumption. R.{Sir Henry Royce} will remember that the engine in this car was already very good for performance.
We could arrange either to fit these modifications on 4-Goshawk-11 when it returns, or send down 6-G-11 car fitted with these modifications at an early date.
