METALASTIK COACHWORK SILENCING

METALASTIK Body Mounting

The majority of body noises are the result of minute noises arising from vibration being amplified by body panels which magnify the noise to clearly audible and sometimes nerve-racking proportions. Such noises may be completely eliminated by isolating the various body components, one from another, by METALASTIK.

"WIREFLEX" SEAT CUSHION

In "Wireflex" Seat Cushioning a new solution has been found for the problem of upholstery. The last remnant of the horse-drawn carriage, obsolete upholstery consisting of rows of spiral springs fastened with webbing, is replaced by a unit of rubber bonded to steel construction. Indeed a revolutionary idea.

This seat cushion unit consists of steel wire mesh bonded with thin rubber coating in angular folds whose convolutions support each other and thus give the springing effect. It is clear that by altering the dimensions of the wire netting and of the folds the seat cushions can be made suitable for all loads. This unique combination of rubber and steel, under working conditions, kills vibration and, because of the higher elasticity, a greater springing effect is obtained leaving no permanent set. Further, this seat cushion has not the disadvantage of the rubber cushions of absorbing heat to such a degree that the seat becomes uncomfortable.

Seat cushion upholstery has changed from a more or less hand-made product to a machine-made article. Hence uniformity of quality is guaranteed and the article can be manufactured more cheaply than before. Very important is the reduction in weight in this new design of seat cushion. The illustrations show clearly the principal constructional details. Manufacturing is carried out by special machinery using a new process. Tests for deflection under actual loads to be carried ensure absolute uniformity of seating comfort for each type supplied.

METALASTIK CRANKSHAFT TORSION DAMPER

In all multi-cylinder engines we have to deal with torsional vibration, which is very detrimental to the quiet running of the engine and smooth performance of the vehicle. The best solution to overcome this difficulty has been developed in a new kind of vibration damper, which comprises merely a housing fitted into the free end of the crankshaft and a flywheel, the inertia member, which is embedded in rubber. The torsional vibrations which have the greatest amplitude on the free end of the crankshaft are absorbed by the damper immediately after their creation.

The METALASTIK vibration damper has no moveable parts which wear out because the movement is confined to the elasticity of the rubber, and there is no friction and no noticeable heat, so that the efficiency of the damper does not alter.

METALASTIK efficiency is allied with simplicity and therefore economy.

These torsion dampers have been in use for a considerable time by MERCEDES-BENZ, Chrysler, B.M.W., Krupp, Magirus, Hansa-Lloyd, Henschel, Saurer, etc.

METALASTIK ENGINE SUSPENSION IN MOTOR VEHICLES

The discovery of "Floating Power" has paved the way to achieving perfection in engine suspension. The novelty of this is found in the fact that the engine is suspended in a line which goes through the centre of gravity of the engine block and the universal joint; that is, in its true and natural axis. In each case the mountings embody a highly elastic rubber suspension, specially made and fitted. Torque is taken elastically. We possess the patent rights in this country. "Floating Power" has been used for a long time by CHRYSLER, Dodge, Plymouth, De Soto, Mercedes-Benz, Adler, Willys, Citroen, etc.
