Contd. -2- Hsl/LG27.2.20. ------------- We propose to consult Mr. Spinney as regards suitable bodies to order. We estimate that we need six experimental cars in order to carry out our work efficiently. Our estimate is based on the following conditions:- 1 Car will always be running 10,000 mile test. 1 Car will always be being prepared for the 10,000 miles test. 1 car will always be in the Shop for change of body, repairs and modifications. This means that we shall have three cars always running for general experimental work. Of these three cars, one will be frequently be loaned to Sales Dept. for their opinion. These six experimental cars would have the following bodies:- 3 Cars with Landaulet Bodies. 1 Car with a Pulman Limousine Body. 2 Cars with open-touring bodies. We should like you to consider, whether, instead of having three Landaulet bodies, we should not have one Cabriolet, and two Landaulet. The Cabriolet, when open, should give a worse effect than the Landaulet because there is more top over-hanging weight. [Handwritten: X.3918] We have also in mind to build up an experimental car which will be a model of the American chassis. We have now a number of American pieces to test and we think they all ought to be fitted on to one chassis. [Handwritten checkmark] We should like your approval to the ordering of two new bodies - the cost of these we estimate would be approximately £1,300. to £1,500. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
