Requirement for Landaulet bodies to be fitted to experimental cars for passenger comfort testing.

With reference to your memo CJ10/E23.2.20., enquiring how many extra Landaulet bodies we require in order to fulfil the regulation that all new parts must be tested on a car fitted with a Landaulet body. We assume from your memo that you will be satisfied if a proportion of the mileage (we suggest not less than 30%) is run on a car fitted with a Landaulet body. We feel that to achieve the object you have in mind, we must not only fit Landaulet bodies but the car must also be judged by passengers seated in the back of the car. I feel that we at the Works are out of our element riding in the back of a car and we may not be the best people to judge the car from that standpoint. We suggest that as Mr. Northey signs all standardisation sheets, he should satisfy himself that new pieces will give satisfaction as regards the occupants of the rear seats. We shall always be pleased to arrange that Mr. Northey had a car at his disposal for this purpose. At the same time we shall, at the works, test cars riding on the back seats. In order to carry out the regulation re. Landaulet bodies, we shall require three cars fitted with such bodies. We have lately purchased one second-hand Landaulet body so that we still require two more. We recommend that we order two new Landaulet bodies - second-hand old-fashioned bodies are not satisfactory - as a rule the windows and doors are continually rattling. We should like the experimental cars to be such that they do represent cars as used by our customers. (Contd.) | ||
