- 4 - HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/VS.{J. Vickers}21.11.38. Rear Axle - continued. The aluminium bronze thrust washers on the differential show no measurable wear. The general condition of the axle gears is good and these should give satisfactory results in further tests. The cages in the pinion bearings GB.3664 have been examined for cracks and found satisfactory. Front Axle. Assembled in accordance with LOP.FB.3091 incorporating PD.129 Needle Roller Lower Pivot Bearings. This section is generally very satisfactory. The pivot pins FB.3682 are in exceptionally good condition and the lubrication is satisfactory. The near side bottom needle rollers in the lower triangle lever have been starved of lubricant; the off side, however, are quite satisfactory in this respect. The upper and lower pivot pin roller races are in good condition, as are the thrust washers. Foward movement of the Silentbloc bushes at the top of the yoke has occurred to the extent of .075 on the near side and .025 on the off side. The end of the axle pivot is slightly worn by the bronze contact piece of the static earth device in the dust cover, and a lighter spring loading is recommended. The yokes have been tested and found free from cracks. Front Brakes. Assembled to LOP.GB.3823. Both brakes are exceedingly good, and from their condition it would appear that they have not been doing a fair share of the work. The operating mechanism and brake drums are satisfactory. continued. | ||
