SC. } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} RH.{R. Hollingworth} } Copy to WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " EH. " DT. X 5440 SECRET ORIGINAL RL/M20.8.29. WW. 20HP. - 16-G-4. There are some alterations to be made to the above car before I wish to pass it on as something of which we thoroughly approve: (1) This is not the final 'Japan' engine. (2) The splashers are, in the case of the front ones, too near the wheels, and in the case of the rear ones, too near the ground. (3) The clutch is not smooth enough. (4) Engine mounting should give slightly smoother pick-up. (5) Compression may need making slightly lower - (detonates slightly.) (6) Exhaust valves cooler and less liable to loose clearance. (7) Exhaust more silent by avoiding long pipe cutout combination. (8) Engine still smoother we hope by using stiffer crankshaft. Rattles (9) Body somewhat (hood down.) I need this car for my summer use, (the SS.{S. Smith} being dangerous owing to the necessity of secrecy,) but I will lend it to any member of the staff for a few days at a time, though not until after the Schneider Trophy Race as we need it for journeys to Southampton etc. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
