To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X-vor 5-B-IV Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}1/KW.9.11.35. Stiffened Chassis Frame for Big Bore Bentley. We have been carrying out experiments on our vibrator rig to determine in what manner it is desirable to stiffen our chassis. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7 attached hereto shows the alterations we would like you to make to 5-B-IV. This chassis will first of all be tested on the rig, and if successful we will have it built up into a complete car. We therefore do not need a crankcase in it at the moment. We would like the steering box raised 1" on an alum. packing piece (this is necessary to clear the frame). We would like a radiator fitting to this car. The drawing shows a crossmember for holding a 3-point mounting type radiator. As the outer shell of a standard radiator would have to be slightly modified in order to fit inside the chassis frames, we propose to fit a radiator with a matrix shortened by 6", so that you can easily bend the outer shell at the bottom as necessary. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std. has this radiator in the Bump House. All additional stiffeners are to be fixed in position by welding. While the car is in the shop will you please change the offside front road spring to a 5 leaf spring, to be a pair with the present nearside spring. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/A.F.Martindale. | ||
