X 216 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Sft.{Mr Swift} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} re Bentley Bottom Half Crankcase. The bosses of the bottom half of the crankcase for holding the silencer triangular tie we find are about 1" lower than called for on our design LeC.3450. This means that on the cars that are built the brake rope on bump fouls the tie. To get over this and to use up the crankcases that are cast we will use the bosses exactly as they stand, and alter the tie by sloping it upwards towards the silencer. We send you herewith LeC.3519 showing what is proposed to get out of the trouble. This will slightly affect the undershield inasmuch as the felt strip will either have to be brought lower or else cut away locally. Drawing to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Blueprint to RHC.{R.
