We have had a case of over-heating which took place when the engine was turning over slowly. The engine was opened up and the attached photographs show the condition of the water passages.

Practically speaking, the water ways were completely blocked up round each stud tube. As you know, the passage between the front and the rear half of the cylinder block on the 25 HP. depends on the water getting through these passages and in this particular case obstruction was so considerable that the circulation appeared to cease in the rear of the cylinder block.

We have seen many cylinder blocks in a very similar condition to this but this is the first one we have actually observed to be suffering from over-heating from this cause. It is obviously a thing that is likely to occur when the pump and water outlet are both located at the front of the cylinder block and there is no second water pipe to the rear of the cylinder block as on the P.2.
