X4429 By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} c. to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Roy. {Sir Henry Royce} c. to Ms/Dr. RECEIVED C.D. JAN 28 Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 9/NJ27.1.22. "Goshawk II" - Laminated Road Springs. X4429 Further to mine Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 1/NJ25.1.22, we are now in receipt of a letter from Thos. Firth & Sons Ltd. dated 26th inst. as follows:- "Further to our letter of yesterday's date and "yours ref.- Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 4/NJ24122, of the 24th, we have duly "considered the remarks in Mr. Bailey's letter and are "quite prepared to agree that his views are quite "justifiable. "We now think it will be best to leave any further "discussion until after some of our trial sets have "been through bumping tests, and with this in view we "are intending to complete as soon as possible the six "trial sets off drawings Nos. F.50595 and F.50596, as "previously arranged. "With reference to the new drawings Nos. 50881 and "50886, we are going into the matter of the design of "these as regards/camber, thickness of leaves, etc., "but we do not intend to roll any material or start "manufacturing any sample springs from our calculations "made from these drawings, until we have reports from "you as to the result of the bumping tests taken on our "six trial sets. Should you, however, wish us to make "you some trial sets to these new drawings from our "calculations, we shall be pleased to receive an order "from you." As I feel sure you will agree with Firth's proposals, I have written them to that effect, and at the same time have instructed them not to proceed with the construction of the two pairs of rear springs F.50854, 700 lbs. type, which we instructed them to put in hand by our letter ref.- Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} /Ms1/FJ7122, of 7th inst. If these two pairs of springs are required by Experimental Dept., they should be ordered from Woodheads. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [STAMP: JAN 30 1922 RECE] Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} | ||
