Re "HAWK" ENGINE. X.3220. X.1933. X.2989.

Capt. Briggs has been to the Works with reference to improvements which we could recommend should be fitted to the 300 "Hawk" engines which are going to be made by Brazil Straker.

He said that although the Airship people were very pleased with the original "Hawks" they would like more power if it can be obtained without sacrificing reliability.

We told him that we thought we could give them 100 HP. at 1500 r.p.m. 118 lbs. B.M.P. We consider it is to our advantage to improve the efficiency of the "Hawk" as much as possible because even though the Airship people are satisfied with the 90 HP. at 1500 r.p.m. by the time they get delivery of these new "Hawks" they will be wanting something better.

"Sunbeams" have designed them an engine for the small Airships - 100 HP. 400 lbs. weight. Capt: Briggs considers, if we can give the same H.P. the hawk engine will be standardised for small Airships.

We recommend that the following alterations should be made to the new Hawks.

(1) Valve Mechanism made similar to present "Falcons" to give .450" Valve Lift.

(2) 30º valve seats.
