F.{Mr Friese} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Royce Esq., ElmsteadHenry Royce's home in West Wittering. West WitteringHenry Royce's home town. Nr. Chichester. Dear Mr. Royce, The week before last just before my brother left for Trinidad, he was talking to me of a new departure in lubricating oils for internal combustion engines which our firm have introduced. The results obtained from this seem so satisfactory that I volunteered to inform my friends interested in such oils, of these results, in order that they might benefit by this new discovery. The particular advantages of this new lubricating oil are that the carbon deposits in the cylinder are greatly reduced while the lubricating qualities of the oil is improved. Careful tests extending over considerable periods have been carried out and it is shewn that a car with the new oil would run about twice the distance without decarbonization as when it is lubricated with an ordinary first grade oil such as Vacuum "A". Further, the wear on the cylinders is considerably less after a period of running than when ordinary lubricating oil is used, starting difficulties are minimised and the liability to gumming up of piston rings and exhaust valves is reduced. Any of these factors may mean the difference between trouble and satisfaction with a car. So important do I think this discovery that I would ask you to get your technical people to make a test of the oil and form their own conclusions. If they would write to the firm, marking their letter for the special attention of Mr. S.E. Bowrey, they would receive immediate and technical attention. Yours sincerely (Sd) Arthur Duckham.
