The Alvis owner is still an Alvis man. He concedes your Bentley has an even nicer gear box, & better brakes, & much smoother & quieter engine but he claims a HE MAN hand brake (not for parking only) GUTS galore, & a 'demonstrably superior max. speed 95/100 mph & appreciably better accel'on now, after 41,000, than a just-run-in 1939 Bentley. His Alvis will reach 50 mph in 9 secs, 60 mph in 14 secs & 70 mph in 19 secs. The Bentley's corresponding figures are more like 11, 17, & 23? There is no comparison between A & B traffic-manners. The Alvis just isn't playing below 20 on top or 15 on 3. There is never the silky, quiet boasts 70 mph cruising that the Bentley owner enjoys. Furthermore the front tyres 19" x 5 1/2" have worn quickly. Driving visibility & seating position are EXCELLENT. The owner agrees that the B is not worth another £500. | ||
