COPY. X7530. Mr. Ellis. c. Mr. Hough. c. Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} c. ROY{Sir Henry Royce} c. G/Mt. - from SFT.{Mr Swift} SFT.{Mr Swift}7/B.11.11.29. Re Patch Type Instruments for Phantom II & 20-HP. ------------------------------------ You will now both understand from our discussion this morning that the future policy with regard to the handling of these instruments so as to avoid the possibility of dirt and foreign particles getting into them, is as follows. We do not want Mr. Hough to undo the boxes, but merely to count them and give the Stores a paper record of same. The speedometers will be sent to the Test Dept. for calibration check and the other instruments will be sent direct to Mr. Ellis to be put straight into his store cupboard. The speedometers after having been tested in the Test Dept. will be sent straight on to Mr. Ellis for storage with the other instruments. Mr. Ellis will then do all his fitting on one bench and his assembling only in another corner, which we will endeavour to make cleaner than the present position. These will then be assembled, removing the dust cover packing only at the last moment. Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} will arrange for the instrument board complete with instruments to be inspected and accepted at our end. On acceptance it will be immediately put into a transporting box and placed in a clean position in the Test Dept. Stores, where it will lie and not be touched until finally required for the despatch of the chassis. To help Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} to carry on on these lines, we are prepared to supply him with temporary boards and thermometers. Will he kindly let us know his requirements if any in this connection. I realise that under these circumstances if we do find any damaged, it may not be possible to report these to the suppliers until probably many weeks after, but I have arranged to get over this difficulty with ROY{Sir Henry Royce} and Elliott's representative this morning. They have agreed to take our report, even though it is late after receipt of the parts from Elliotts. This I think, should eliminate quite a number of the complaints we have of dirty instruments, and in the very near future we will endeavour to get a really good place for them | ||
