To Ba. [struck through] from Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Wcr. [struck through] X3653 Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}7/W19919. RE BLANKING PLATES ON CURRENT CARS. It is necessary that we should proceed at once with Blanking Plates for chasses which are now being delivered. The type desired by Mr. Royce is that in which the whole of the radiator is covered by the plate but a large circular hole is cut out opposite the fan. Mr. Hives will supply you from the results of his tests with the necessary information regarding size of hole necessary. [word 'stages' struck through] Further [illegible word struck through] of Blanking would be obtained by different plates with varying sizes of holes. This information must be got out as quickly as possible and the Production Dept. instructed accordingly. As an immediate measure for chasses which are now being delivered, will you please instruct the Production Dept. to produce two rectangular blanking strips per chassis, one of 4" in width and one of 7" in width. These plates give 4 conditions:- (1) No Blanking Plates. (2) 4" Blanked off. (3) 7" Blanked off. (4) 11" Blanked Off. This instruction should be sent through to the Production Dept. in the usual form by means of drawings together with details of the small diameter retaining bolts and washer. The urgency of fitting these plates is increased by the present piston knock situation and no cars should reach customers' hands without blanking plates. V.W.W. WORKS Bn.{W.O.
