LEFT-HAND PHANTOM II FOR AMERICA.

Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}29/L.2.9.30.

The position as regards wheels and tyres for America is as follows:-

We originally obtained wheels with 19" rims with straight sided tyres for the left-hand cars. These we demonstrated to oy. but they did not give such good results as our standard 20" wheel, for drop centre rims.

It was then agreed that we should fit our standard wheels and rims. After further correspondence with Springfield, they pointed out that the American standard d.c. rim was going to be wider than our present standard rim. We also found out that Messrs. Dunlops in England considered that they would ultimately change to U.S. standard.

We have now a set of wheels on order which complies with Oy's requirements, but these are 20" diameter not 19" as quoted in your memo Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}3/E25.7.30. Oy. realises this as you will see by his memo August 22nd. 1930.

Ultimately, U.S.A. would like the 19" rim but we shall require to make further tests before we can say that this is satisfactory.

As regards the bumping test of the frame. This test is now rigged up and you should have the results by the end of the week.
