BY5-P26.5.21. contd. - 2 - question we would probably overcome our trouble. There is, of course, a very considerable difference between both the forward and reverse running with the Gleason type and straight bevels. The existing small collar on the Propeller Shaft appears to be inadequate under the new loads, and possibly the removal of the collar in question and the screwing of the Propeller Shaft would enable us to fit a reasonable depth of collar in place of the existing one. The load on the Bevel Pinion tooth at full power on 1st speed is 4500 lbs. The resultant thrusts are:- (a) Forward running 2250 +10% for obliquity of tooth = 2500. (b) Backward running 2250 less 10% = 2000. lbs. The thrust from direct drive is 650 lbs + 10% = 715. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
