X.3500 - RE DELAGE CARF Attached herewith are some photographs shewing pieces of the Delage Car engine. A brief description of the engine is as follows:- It is 66 mm. bore and 130 mm. stroke (measured). The cylinders are cast momo-block in the casting also are the inlet and the exhaust passages. The induction system is a twin Claudel Carburetter and a separate induction pipe for eahh 3 cylinders. The camshaft and magneto is driven by a silent chain. The lubrication is by means of a little gear oil pump which supplies oil to the 4 main bearings: the crank is then drilled to supply the big ends. The centre line of the crankshaft is off-set from the centre line of the cylinder 10 mm. towards the camshaft side. The tappets work direct ton the camshaft. The tappet guides are cast iron with steel tappets. The ends of the tappets were found very badly worn. We will take a diagram of the valve lift when the engine is erected. There is a false bottom in the bottom half which acts as an oil cooler; the bottom having radiating fins. We are now building this engine up and hope to have it running early next week. EH. | ||
