SPEED GEARBOX - CONTROLS.

Herewith we send print of N. sch. 3226., unfinished scheme of the controls on top of steering column, emodying the gear control.

Since we were revising the lowered controls in any case we took the opportunity to incorporate the gear control in these. By removing the gear lever and substituting a mixture quadrant only, the controls become suitable for a standard P. 2. If it is not desired to wait until these are ready before testing the epicyclic 3rd. speed box a temporary control for the gear could be arranged on a standard column.

As compared with the last set of lowered controls, which were criticised, these have been raised a little in height. Some of the flatness complained of has been removed and radii increased. The finger grips are suggestions for reducing the danger of trapping the fingers in the wheel spokes. For the mixture and gear control we shew 3 alternatives viz: a finger grip, and two forms of thumb operation.

We also send print of N. sch. 3227., levers at the bottom of the column, and print of N. sch. 3228., the controls along the chassis. We have looked at several alternative arrangements of N. sch. 3228., and selected the one shewn because it seemed the fewest pieces, and also gives the least amount of fidgeting on the joints due to the engine movement, though the geometry from the steering column is not perfect.
