-4- HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/KW.11.7.36. Bentley. 15,000 miles Car. 6-B-IV will be ready to leave for France on July 16th, and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} is proposing to give the car a preliminary run on his holiday. Clutches. There was an initial manufacturing variation on the part of Borg & Beck's which undoubtedly is likely to cause trouble on the first 100 cars produced. The clutches are now being manufactured satisfactorily, and we are waiting to see whether any cases arise where bad take-up is experienced with these properly made parts. As a precaution we are running the 11" clutch on 6-B-IV; though it does not give such a smooth engine, in our experience it is less likely to suffer from jaggers. We have a Bentley clutch lined with Hycoe material which has done > 7,500 miles on one of our cars and, as proved on the Ph.III, is infinitely better for smooth take-up than the standard material. We are proposing immediately to run an endurance test in London traffic, with a view to clearing this plate in case the trouble with the existing 10" clutch continues. Brake Jaggers. The designed parts to cure brake jaggers will be on test on Tuesday next, the 14th inst. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
