| Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.9/G.18.6.34. BENTLEY CARS - RE: WANDERING STEERINGS. ------------------------------------------- Referring to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}1/R.16.6.34. and Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}1/Crn. 13.6.34. under cover of same, I have discussed this matter with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and he agrees that the trouble on the steering is due to the springs taking a permanent set in a similar manner to the two chassis which we had recently under discussion. The cure is replacement of the springs. Whilst the axle has nothing to do with the fault complained of it will be necessary to replace the axle as soon as possible from the point of view of the failures which have occurred due to the axle being rather too light for the duty imposed. In sending a set of springs to France they should, of course, be the new type with an extra clip. We would like to have the original springs returned to check the brinell on the top plates. The wandering of the steering is due to the alteration of the forward inclination of the pivots controlling the 'castor' action, as the result of the top plates taking a permanent set. BY.{R.W.
