With reference to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}1/R.16.6.34 and attached note from Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} the cars complained of are fitted with the original Bentley front axle. The wandering steering is undoubtedly due to the ends of the axle twisting. It has now been agreed that all the original Bentley axles will be changed. This is the only way to overcome the trouble. Regarding the road springs, we have found it almost impossible to reproduce the trouble on experimental test, therefore it is difficult to know whether the extra spring clip will provide a cure. Experiments, however, are being continued. It is possible that this last example off B-15-AE was a low brinell, particularly as only one spring suffers from distortion.
